This is an expression that I use all the time, but I have no idea where I originally got it from (I really wish I did). I use this expression when I see or hear of circumstances that are a little unusual or different.
I think that this statement is very useful when teaching the piano or trying to encourage others who are learning to play the piano.
The real essence behind the statement of ‘you can’t argue with success’, is that there is frequently more than one way of achieving the results you are after – some circumstances might be completely typical and average, while other circumstances might be truly bizarre. However, it does not really matter what your path to success is – all that truly matters is that you reach your goal.
The reason why I like the saying that you can’t argue with success is because it acknowledges that there is frequently several ways of doing something to achieve the same end goal. I think that this particularly applies to learning to play the piano.
I really do believe that there are many ways a person can learn to successfully play the piano. Some people can pick it up by themselves while others need a teacher. Others yet might need a teacher for the first part of the journey and then they get to a point of being able to figure out the rest.
Some people play the piano by playing chords while others like to read music, but at the end of the day, isn’t everyone who learns to play by whatever method, still learning to play the piano?
There are some like me who took lessons as a kid and teenager, while others started learning when they were already adults, but in the end, who can tell the difference between the two.
So if you are considering learning to play the piano, forget about what should have happened before or how you could have gotten started earlier. The main thing is to get started and just keep going despite what the so called ideal is. If you keep going, you will end up playing what you would love to play and no-one will be discouraging or disparaging because you truly can’t argue with success.
